Introduction of Guest:
Christmas Fundraising Event: Scott Sivley
Scott Sivley came and spoke about the Christmas lights show at Griffith Park and
creating our own show using lights. He stated people in SCV love Christmas lights; he
started thinking about doing something similar at the train station. Scott introduced Rick
Turner works for Disney, he creates a light show on his street, Rick displayed a phone
video for display (through Youtube light show) perhaps creates a light show similar to the
light show at Griffith Park. He feels it would be fairly inexpensive to conduct. A show on
the train station for under $1,000 dollars approximately. Scott also talked about included
ice skating and light show combination. The Lyons Club helped with the Haunt perhaps
they may assist with the light show. Ask Lowe's to sponsor lights. Continue each year
and add on to the display each year. Special event insurance would be around $1,000 per
event. Concern was brought up about safety and covering rink when not in use and the
cost of the ice rink, would supervision be included. Scott's thought was to work towards
2011 year; send out scouts to check out how to start this endeavor. Another possibility
could be a hayride through the event.
Laurene spoke on the outreach of events taking hold in the community. Laurene feels the
city and park coming together will create an outcome of peoples coming to SCV to
observe event and raise money for the event. The city has a huge group of volunteers that
may volunteer to assist with these events. To get the city involved Historical society
needs to go talk with the city and discuss the event and the overall perimeters of the cost.
Need to begin the discussion now with the city.
Pitch a concept to the city, create a story book atmosphere, meet with the city manager
and explain concept.
Parking will be metro link parking, with shuttle to coordinate the event. Need to sell
concept before discussing event.
Correspondence Report:
