Barbara Sitzman Cook, Pico Resident
Interviewed May 26, 1988


May 26, 1988 — Barbara Sitzman Cook shares her memories of growing up in the Pico Canyon oil town of Mentryville and attending school in Newhall in the 1920s-1930s. Barbara S. Cook (1921-2002) was the daughter of Charles Edward Sitzman (1878-1950), who was superintendent of the Pico Oil Field from 1927-1937, and Emma Sitzman (née Emma Elizabeth Lemcke, 1890-1957). The family, which also included Barbara's brother, Philip Edward Sitzman (1920-1993), lived in the 13-room "Pico cottage."

Interview conducted May 26, 1988, by Cynthia Neal Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society. Original recording is on cassette tape. It starts mid-sentence.
