EUGENE WARREN BISCAILUZ ment work in 1907 when he served in the

mel. He advanced rapidly to Assistant Chief
Civil Deputy, which position he held until
1921 when he was appointed Undersheriff
by Wi II iam I. Traeger. He served as Under-
sheriff until August, 1929, when he was ap-
pointed first Superintendent of the California
Highway Patrol. In March of 1931 , he re-
turned to Los Angeles County as Undersheriff
and served in that capacity to December,
1932. At that time, Traeger was elected to
Congress and Biscailuz was appointed Sheriff
to finish the unexpired term. He was elected
Sheriff in 1934, re-elected in 1938, and again
in 1942 and 1946. He holds the distinction
of having remained in office longer than any
other Sheriff of Los Angeles County.
During his years of service, Biscailuz has
taken a prominent part in the handling of
many famous cases. He is looked upon as a
respected leader throughout law enforcement
circles, and his department possesses an en-
viable reput~tion throughout the country as
a progressive and efficient law enforcement
organization.
