Mentryville | Pico Canyon
Click image to enlarge Photograph from late fall or early winter of 1948, showing the Pico Cottage (aka Big House) in Mentryville, with Joe and Helen Rundberg's 1947 Chevrolet parked in front of it. The Rundberg family lived there from 1948 to 1952. The photo comes to us from their son Bill Rundberg, who was a teenager at the time (Hart High Class of 1951). Read his story here. Of this image, Bill notes that the cattle guard is not yet installed, and that the tree on the left is a black walnut, which provided much shade in the summer and was used as a backdrop for a wedding.
