Guadalupe Ruiz Dominguez is the mother of Lady Linda (Packard) (Cullen) of San Francisquito Canyon. Guadalupe is the sister of Martin Ruiz, the Newhall saloonkeeper, and Henry (Henriquez/Enriquez) Ruiz, who perished along with his family in the St. Francis Dam disaster. The father of Guadalupe, Henry and Martin was also named Martin Ruiz; we know him from the Ruiz-Suraco Adobe in Bouquet Canyon.

True Native Daughter Laid to Rest at Piru.

A true native daughter of California, and matriarch of the Little Santa Clara Valley, Mrs. Guadalupe R. [Ruiz] Dominguez passed away at her home in Piru Feb. 17. She was 81 years old, having born Jan. 6, 1866, in what is now Hollywood.

She spent her childhood on her father's sheep ranch in Boquet Canyon. Remains of the old adobe ranch house may still be seen across from the Surraco [Suraco adobe] there. There were colorful and exciting days in [...] Dominguez often told of the experiences her father had with bandits. Her brother, Martin Ruiz, owned a saloon in Newhall.

At the age of 17 she married Francisco N. Dominguez [sic: correct middle initial is "H"] of a prominent early California family and they moved to Piru where they lived for 63 years with the exception of a few years lived at Santa Paula.

She was the mother of Mrs. Linda Packard of Saugus and Mrs. Earl Stafford of the Newhall Ranch.

Friendly with all, regardless of ancestry or condition of life, Mrs. Dominguez's funeral services at the Piru Methodist church were impressive, and were reported to have been one of the most largely attended in the history of Ventura county. Rev. J. Nicholson officiated. Interment took place in the Piru cemetery.

Mrs. Dominguez is survived by five daughters: Mrs. T.R. Packard [sic: A.R.; Tony Packard], Mrs. E.W. Safford, Mrs. P. Luna of Santa Paula, Mrs. F. Ramirez of Piru and Mrs. A.K. Lovatt of Ventura; five sons: Frank, James and Martin Dominguez of Piru, Leonard of Santa Paula and Raymond of El Monte. There are 31 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
