Clint Eastwood Directs "Space Cowboys"

"Space Cowboys" was directed by Clint Eastwood from an original screenplay by Ken Kaufman and Howard Klausner.

Principal filming took place from July 19, 1999, to October 19, 1999, in multiple locations in California, Texas and Florida. Several Santa Clarita Valley locations were used, most notably Agua Dulce Airpark (33638 Agua Dulce Canyon Road) and the Halfway House Cafe in Mint Canyon (15564 Sierra Highway) — but also a dirt airstrip at the west end of S.O.S. FilmWorks (34855 Petersen Road, near Old Mint Canyon Road and Sierra Highway in Auga Dulce); Six Flags Magic Mountain; and Piru United Methodist Church (3875 Center Street).

The film premiered August 1, 2000. Alan Robert Murray and Bub Asman earned an Oscar nomination for Best Sound Editing, while Eastwood was nominated for Best Director by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films (USA). "Space Cowboys" won Best Foreign Language Film honors in Japan.
