April 21, 1999 — Call sheet for filming day 6 (of 13) for Warner Bros.' 1999 feature film adaptation of the 1965-1969 CBS Television series, "The Wild Wild West."
The principal scene (No. A137) at Vasquez Rocks calls for lead characters James West (Will Smith) and Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline) to try to remove each other's collars.
Additional on-camera talent for the scene includes actor Andre Blair, stunt coordinator Phililp Tan, Smith's stunt double Randy LeRoi, Kline's stunt double Gary Wayton, and stunt performers
Mark Byers, Scott Rogers and Jim Hart.
The day's work at Vasquez Rocks included additional "desert" sequences, and more action was filmed at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.
It was a quick turnaround for "Wild Wild West," which was in theaters June 30, 1999. Despite its all-star cast (Salma Hayek, Kenneth Branagh), it was almost universally panned, and
many of the participants were unhappy with the movie including Will Smith (who regretted turning down "The Matrix" for it), director Barry Sonnenfeld, and especially Robert Conrad, who
starred in the original television series and turned down a cameo role after reading the script, which was written and rewritten by committee.
