A group of young women use frying pans to pan for gold in Placerita Canyon in 1934. (The men are just standing or sitting around, posing for the photograph.) Examining this photo and considering the unique gneiss (metamorphic rock), longtime Placerita and Sand Canyon resident George Starbuck is convinced it is Placerita Canyon (pers. comm. 2017). The cutline doesn't specify. It reads:

RENEWING THE DAYS OF '49.
