Newhall Fourth of July Parade

Ernestine "Tina" Cooke in the (1946?) Newhall Fourth of July Parade, which she entered as part of a group of four; dressed in native style with fringed skirt and vest, headband and feather. Seen here just before or just after the parade.

Tina was born Ernestine Agnes Cooke at Newhall Community Hospital on July 15, 1939. She's the eldest daughter of Ernest Cooke and Edna Louise Balsz of Newhall.

Through her father and his mother (Chief Mary Cook Garcia), Tina and her children — Leticia (1957), Laura (1959), Veronica (1961) and Scott (1962) — trace their ancestry to individuals who lived in the Santa Clarita Valley prior to European contact in 1769.
