Cesena Family: 5 Generations
Newhall, California

April 2002 — Esther (Callahan) Cesena Lowy, seated, is the matriarch in this rare 5-generation photo. Esther was born to Ivan Callahan and Francis Pastor Callahan in Denver, Colo., on July 21, 1915, and moved to Newhall at age 12. In 1933 she married her next-door neighbor, Robert Ralph Cesena, and had four children: Lorraine, Robert Jr., Charles and Bill.

Their son Charles "Chuck" Cesena (generation 2) is at the viewer's right. He's a 1954 graduate of Hart High School, when Hart's colors were maroon and gray, as evidenced by the shirt (they were later changed to red, white and black because it was too difficult to order maroon and gray).

Chuck's daughter, Christy Cesena Himler (generation 3), is the woman at center; her son, Charlie Jaramillo (generation 4), is at the viewer's left. His baby daughter, Ciera Jarmillo (generation 5), is held by her great-grandma Esther.

Another of baby Ciera's great-grandmothers — Christy Cesena Himler's mother — is Venita Quinn Skovgaard, who was born in Newhall.
