Story

"I'm headin' for the Last
    Round-Up
Saddle old Paint for the last
    time and ride
So long, old pal, it's time your
    tears were dried
I'm headin' for the Last
    Round-Up."—from the song
    "The Last Round-Up."

In the shadows of the Saugus hills, where the wind chases the tumbleweeds under a cloudless sky, the cowpokes gathered today to say good-bye to an old friend and neighbor—William S. Hart.
Lean, leathery-faced men, with spurs jangling on their boots, and women in gingham and sunbonnets, self-consciously walked up the wide veranda of the Hart ranch home in Newhall and stood silently at the bier.
It was the first time many of them had seen their old friend dressed in a dark blue business suit, instead of the tight pants and 10-gallon hat that he made famous when he was riding to fame and fortune on the movie-land range. But his features, even relaxed in death, were as stern as they remembered.
"LAST ROUND-UP"
The services, held in the den of the ranch home which was hung with saddles and bridles, were simple and there was no eulogy, for none was needed for their Newhall neighborhood whose heart was always with the cowpokes. Prayers were read by Dr. George Davidson, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, Los Angeles.
