Dear Mr. Liebovitz:
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society has had a long and
serious commitment to the preservation and restoration of the
"Pardee House", an historic structure presently owned by
Pacific Bell and located at 24275 Walnut Street, in Newhall,
California.
This building has played an impressive role in the history of
the Santa Clarita Valley since its construction in 18'88(?) as a
Good Templar' s Lodge by Henry Clay Needham, not the least of
which was its use as a telephone exchange in the early years of
the twentieth century. It has additionally served as a resi-
dence, a western movie set in the days of Tom Mix and his "Mix-
ville", and as a headquarters both for the Boys and Girls Club
and for the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.·
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is fully prepared
to relocate the structure to its Heritage Junction Historic
Park In Newhall and to restore it for use as a Visitors Center,
a Library and a Museum of Santa Clarita Valley History.
The Society the ref ore requests the unconditional donation of
the "Pardee House" to the Society and permission to relocate it
to Heritage Junction, per your agreement with Jo Anne Darcy,
Senior Field Deputy to Supervisor Michael Antonovich.
If I can answer any questions or provide additional informa-
tion, please contact me at (805) 251-1909.
Sincerely,
John Mann, President
