EQUIPMENT NEEDED Rock pick
HOW TO GET THERE Take Ventura Freeway past Thousand Oaks and
Newbury Park. At the bottom of Conejo Grade turn right onto
Park Road and proceed .9 mile to Camarillo Grove Park. You can
camp in the park from October to May. From the park walk up the
private dirt road.
The hills here are quite brushy and there are many long-spined
cactus plants, · so wear good protective clothing and heavy boots.
Some good materi·a1 is found as you walk up the first wide, canyon
on the left (north) side of the road. More is found scattered
on the hill at the head· of this canyon. If you pref er to wai k
up the dirt road, agate can ·oe found on the hills to the left
of the road for about 1 mile.
The sagenite is not too plentiful, but by walking over the hills
and keeping a sharp eye for the mottled reddish agate, you can
find pieces suitable for cutting. The chalcedony roses are spread
over this same general area.
