Louis Raggio, one of the last of the old-timers native to this valley, passed
away at his home in Newhall last Thursday [Feb. 25, 1960] following a long illness. He was the son of
an early settler in San Francisquito Canyon and made his home for many years on the family ranch there.
Until his retirement a few years ago he was an employee of the [Los Angeles] Department of Water and Power.
He was born Nov. 13, 1885, in Saugus.
Services were Wednesday, March 2, at Hillburn's Funeral Chapel. Interment followed
at Eternal Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Raggio is survived by his wife Bessie G. Raggio of Newhall; a son, Neeland Gibson of
Sylmar; two brothers, Charles and Joseph Raggio of Los Angeles; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Raggio was a familiar and colorful figure in Newhall and throughout the
entire valley. His passing leaves another gap in the thinning ranks of old-timers, and he left a wide circle
of friends to mourn.
