DEC. 1 EVENT REMEMBERS LAURA MEHTERIAN
Laura Mehterian was a vivacious and very special lady to the SCV Historical Society for many years, and to the other community organizations she touched. Laura succumbed to cancer earlier this month, and we'll be celebrating her life and memory at the Saugus Train Station in Heritage Junction, Newhall, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 1. All friends are invited; no RSVP necessary.

HOLIDAY PARADE COMING TO CANYON COUNTRY
The first annual Santa Clarita Holiday Musical Light Parade is almost here! Line up on Soledad Canyon Road at 5 p.m. to catch the parade, which starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs eastward from Whites to Shangri La. Among the notables in the lineup: Tippi Hedren (The Birds), Bo Hopkins (American Graffiti), Rick Chambers (UPN Channel 13), Jonathan Elias (KCBS Channel 2), all four high school bands, Santa & Mrs. Claus and more! Post-parade activities will be held in the Soledad Entertainment Center (Edwards complex) until 9 p.m.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE AT THE TRAIN STATION
The SCV Historical Society will hold its annual Christmas Open House at the Saugus Train Station in Heritage Junction on Sunday, Dec. 9. The day begins with the Old Town Newhall Association's toy parade for children, starting at 11 a.m. on Newhall Avenue and ending at Hart Park. Then it's on to Heritage Junction at noon for yummy treats, entertainment from two high school choirs, a Blessing of the Animals and the dedication of the newly restored Ramona Chapel, featuring the wonderful craftsmanship of project leader Allan Howe.

After all, we celebrated the 125th anniversary of Lang Station and Mentryville this year; we knew 100 years is a centennial and 150 years is a sesquicentennial — but what's 125 years? Society member Dee Winsman came up with the answer: It's a quasquicentennial. Say THAT three times fast.
