The Saugus Rollerama (roller skating rink) on the west side of Bouquet Canyon Road, just north of the present-day Magic Mountain Parkway intersection, probably 1965. (Together with other SCV photographs known to date from 1965.)

The tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad's Saugus spur line (to Ventura) can be seen in the foreground. The view is to the west (or northwest). The tracks were later removed.

According to reader Bruce Posten, the Rollerama opened in 1960. According to reader Dean Graves, the land and building were owned by Robert Newhall Chesebrough (1922-1996), one of Henry Mayo Newhall's great-grandsons. According to local historian John Boston, the skating rink was the brainchild of two Safeway employees, Jim Walker and Jim Santo, and Chesebrough financed the operation.

In 1961, the Rollerama hosted the first service of what became Christ Lutheran Church in Valencia.

As for the front doors, which are boarded up in this photograph, reader Maria Marjo Gisbertz Hall writes: "They were glass until the day I was there and a friend couldn't stop and went through the glass doors. It was quite a mess."

The glass was replaced. After Rollerama left, George Kirchner used the building for the service department of his Newhall-Saugus Volkswagen dealership, which he opened in about 1956 and operated from a Quonset hut elsewhere on the same property.

As of 2013, both the Quonset hut and the Rollerama building still stand; the part of the Rollerama building with the boarded-up doors is used as of 2013 by the Hertz car-rental company.
