A public gathering in honor of SCV legislative aide and community leader Linda Ruth Lambourne will be held Saturday, April 21, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sand Canyon Country Club, 27734 Sand Canyon Road.

The longtime aide to Sen. Scott Wilk and former U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon died Friday morning, March 23, 2018, after a 2-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), her daughter said in a social media post.

"For those who weren't aware, my mother has been suffering with ALS for almost 2 years," her daughter, Angi McDuffie, wrote. "Early this morning she passed away. We are grateful to everyone in the community that helped our family through the progression of her disease. She was fortunate to have so many people who admired and loved her. We will miss her but are relieved she is no longer suffering."

Lambourne was chief assistant to Wilk when he served as McKeon's district director. Wilk made her his own district director when he was elected to the Assembly in 2012.

"She was an amazing, gracious, very intelligent, sophisticated lady, and she represented the legislators well," said Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste, a longtime friend of Lambourne.

Weste said: "She went to all the meetings and was always helpful to the constituents. She worked with other ladies who worked for different legislators. They called themselves 'The Legisladies' and used to march in the (Fourth of July) parade. She was so proud to be able to serve our community and get people the assistance they needed. And she was very proud of her work."

Linda was born December 10, 1949, in Van Nuys, to Ruth and Bruce Cramer, who owned a lumber business. She graduated from Simi Valley High School in 1967 and moved to the San Fernando Valley where she worked in computer programming and sales.

Linda met husband Steve Lambourne in mid-1970 when they lived in the same apartment building. The couple married September 26, 1970, and relocated to Canyon Country in 1978. They found their dream home in Sand Canyon, where they raised two daughters, Lindsey and Angi.

Linda immersed herself in volunteer activities and organizations including the Brownies, Sulphur Springs PTA Holiday Store and Halloween Carnival, SCV Historical Society, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Guild, Safe Rides and more.
