Genevieve Margaret Marincola

Genevieve Margaret (Gingo) Marincola, 94, of Canyon Country, passed away on August 15th, 2013 after a short illness.

Genevieve was born on June 30th, 1919, in Watertown, New York. At the age of 16, in 1935, she met her future husband, Tony, at her Godfather's Italian restaurant. She graduated from Niagra Falls High School, then attended Trott Vocational School, and became a hairdresser. She would later open her own beauty salon, aptly named Genevieve's Beauty Salon. In June of 1940, Genevieve and Tony married. While Tony served in World War II, Genevieve did her part as a "Rosie the Riveter."

After the war was over, they welcomed their first daughter, Suzanne, in November of 1946. Nearly 13 years later, they welcomed their 2nd child, another daughter, Donna, in June of 1959.

Job opportunities would lead the family to California in late 1959. After living in several locations in Southern California, they settled into their home in what is now Canyon Country. There she worked for TG&Y, Brings Bakery, Skyblue Mesa Elementary, and Rio Vista Elementary. She and her husband also ran the voting polls in their home for 20 plus years. She was a devout Catholic, and an original member of St. Clare's Parish in Canyon Country.

Genevieve enjoyed many, many years of retirement and being a housewife before falling ill. She will be remembered for her love for children and family, her generous spirit, and her fabulous Italian cooking.

Genevieve will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Anthony Marincola; her daughters, Suzanne (Jim) Ward and Donna (Allan) Deans; 2 grandsons, Gary Scott and Bradley Bergman; 2 granddaughters, Terri Shelden and Lauren (Marc) Donatz; and 2 great grandsons, R.J. and Joshua Shelden.

A visitation will be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park on Sunday, August 18th, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a Rosary at 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Clare's Catholic Church in Canyon Country, on Monday, August 19th, at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Eternal Valley. A reception will be held at St. Clare's following the graveside service.
