Dorothy Mae McGinnis Payton

Dorothy Mae McGinnis Payton of Valencia died June 11, 2017. She was 90.

Born December 12, 1926, in Denver, Colorado, Dorothy moved with her family to Los Angeles. She met her future husband Charles in 1942 while he was serving in the Marine Corps. The couple eloped to Las Vegas in 1943 while he was on leave. When he returned from serving in World War II, they settled in Redondo Beach and raised their four children, Carol, Pamela, Ruth and Charles Jr.

Following Charles' death in 2002 after 59 years of marriage, Dorothy moved to Valencia to be closer to family. A woman of deep faith, she attended Faith Community Church in Newhall and enjoyed spending time with family. She was a grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of 12, and great-great-grandmother of two.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters Carol (Barry) Dobler of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Ruth (Marcel) Flohr of Valencia, and her son Charles (Sheree) Payton Jr. of Simi Valley. Her grandchildren include Lee (Monica) Sebor, Susan (Paul) Juarez, April (Eric) Harnish, Erin (Javier) Robles, Tim (Andrea) Flohr, Andrew (Stephanie) Payton and Karen Payton. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela.

The family has planned a memorial luncheon for noon Wednesday at Faith Community Church. A private burial service will be scheduled at a later date.
