Kingsburry Rites Held On Tuesday.

Charles H. Kingsburry, of 24318 N. Walnut St., a resident of the Newhall area for the last 44 years, died last Saturday [August 10, 1963].

Mr. Kingsburry would have been 84 years old next Monday. He was born Aug. 19, 1879, in St. Louis, Mo.

He came to Newhall in 1919 and was a carpenter at the power plant. In the early 1930s he was active in the Fourth of July celebrations held here. He owned and operated a butcher shop here for many years.

For many years, Mr. Kingsburry saw to it that no child in the area got past Christmas day without receiving some kind of gift. This was a tradition he kept up for more than 10 years.

Mr. Kingsburry was a prize fighter at one time. By lying about his age (he was several years under the legal age limit) he served in the Spanish-American War.

He was a charter member of the Newhall-Saugus Kiwanis and was an active member of the first Newhall Masonic club, which was formed in 1922. He was very active in Masonic activities.

He was a member of San Fernando Lodge number 343 F. and A.M., San Fernando Chapter Royal Arch Masons number 136, San Fernando Valley Council number 40, Hollywood Knights Templar number 56, Order of the Eastern Star number 398, San Fernando White Shrine number 103, Old West Shrine Club, Almalaikah Temple and United Spanish American War Veterans Camp number 90, Van Nuys.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home, two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Adams, San Fernando, Mrs. Pearl Miller, La Mesa, and a brother, George Walton, Denver, Colo.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hilburn's Funeral Chapel. Rev. Garland Anderson and the San Fernando lodge number 343 F. and A.M. officiated. Interment was at Oakwood cemetery, Chatsworth, Calif.
