Elizabeth Blum, the first "Miss Acton," represented her community at the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival, September 4-7, 1952. The following year, she became Mrs. Elizabeth Billet. Some years after that, Ray and Elizabeth Billet took over the operation of the Blum Ranch in Aliso Canyon, Acton, where Elizabeth's grandfather George Blum homesteaded in the 1890s. Elizabeth's parents were George Blum Jr. (eldest son of the homesteader) and the former Miss Rubey Kingsbury, sometimes (mis)spelled "Ruby." Read the Blum Ranch Story by Ray and Elizabeth Billet. Fair — Miss Antelope Valley — was Geraldine Muschinski of the Upper San Francisquito Canyon community of Green Valley. Rounding out the queen's court were Patricia Hankins (Eastside), Joan Riddle (Lake Hughes), Una Lee Perkins (Lancaster), Peggy Stellar (Leona Valley), Margie Pratt (Littlerock), Sharlee Bowlin (Mojave), Evelyn Smith (Palmdale), Shirley Brubaker (Pearblossom), Janet Maxwell (Quartz Hill), Mary Arthur (Rosamond) and Mary Moore (Westside).
