Lobby card advertises the 1935 Tim McCoy vehicle, "The Man from Guntown," from Nat Ross Productions/Puritan Pictures. McCoy is in the middle. Filmed at the Andy Jauregui movie ranch in Placerita Canyon.
The motion picture still exists.
McCoy (1891-1978) rose to stardom as a Western film hero in the 1920s. He retired from the movies in 1935 to join the circus, only to return to the screen in 1940 when he was paired with Buck Jones and
Raymond Hatton in a series of buddy pictures produced by Monogram in Placerita Canyon.
McCoy was honored posthumously at Santa Clarita's Veterans Historical Plaza in Newhall. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I
and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel but did not see overseas action at that time. He more than made up for it two and a half decades later following Buck Jones' untimely death in 1942. He reenlisted,
made full colonel, and won several decorations while serving with the Army Air Corps in Europe.
