Aerial Photos: Hart High, Placerita JHS
Hart High School District

July 10, 1966 — Snapshot in time: A series of 8 aerial photographs commissioned by the William S. Hart Union High School District captures the brief moment between the opening of Placerita Junior High School (and the Orchard Village Shopping Center) and the first residential construction in Valencia.

Imaging by Read and Lassar Corp., an aerial mapping firm established in Brea, Calif., in 1962.

The focus is on Hart High, built in the 1940s, and Placerita Junior High, which opened in 1961. Also prominent are Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and School at 23045 Lyons Avenue, which also opened in 1961 at this location (its third location), and the Orchard Village Shopping Center, which opened in 1965.

Orchard Village Road is only an access road the length of the shopping center. 16th Street, next to the junior high school, does not yet exist.

The future Valencia housing tracts are agricultural fields. The first Valencia homes were occupied before the end of 1967.

8x10 matte prints donated 2018 by Jan Luber, a Hart District employee in the 1970s. Follow link below for enlargements.
