Bus Driver Payment Stub
Val Verde, California

Knowing nothing except that this document came out of the 1939 Val Verde time capsule, we have to believe it represents payment of $5 to an independent contractor (bus driver) by the County of Los Angeles for the transportation of pupils in grades 9-12 from Val Verde to San Fernando High School for the month of February 1939.

This check (warrant) stub was entombed in the time capsule that was secreted inside the cornerstone of the Val Verde Park poolhouse on April 16, 1939. The Los Angeles County Parks Department opened the capsule in 1994 during a renovation project and photographed the contents circa 2014.
