Cougars send two teams packing

The College of the Canyons softball team advanced to the final day of the Super Regionals after eliminating Saddleback 9-3 and Southwestern 10-9 on Saturday.

After being upset by No. 8 Southwestern (28-14) in game one of the Super Regionals on Friday the No. 1 Cougars (41-4-1) got redemption against the Jaguars in a nail biter late Saturday afternoon.

Cougars earn top seeding

The College of the Canyons softball team will host Santa Barbara City College in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association Softball Southern California Regional in a best-of-three series May 5-6.

Eight COC Baseball Players Earn All-Conference Awards

Eight College of the Canyons baseball players were honored with All-Conference awards. Sophomore short stop Juan Perez and freshman catcher Michael Browne were honored with first team All-Conference accolades. Perez was also named the 2011 Western State Conference Player of the Year, the first time a COC player has one the award since Trevor Bloom in 2009.

Three Cougars Named All-Americans by the National Strength and Conditioning Association

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) named three College of the Canyons athletes with All-American awards in Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year. Sophomore Kelli Lewis from the women’s basketball team, sophomore Cal Vogelsang from the baseball team and sophomore Justin Cudworth from the football team were honored with the award.

COC Releases 2011 Football Schedule

College of the Canyons released its football scheduled for the 2011 season on Monday. After finishing their first season in the Western State Conference Southern Division with a 6-5 overall record and a 3-2 conference record, the Cougars will see the same schedule in 2011 as they did a year ago.

COC Hockey on a Roll in the National Tournament

The College of the Canyons hockey team continued their dominate play in the Division III National Championship Tournament held in Holland, Michigan on Thursday with a 5-4 victory over Loyola University Maryland. It was the team’s second win of the tourney after defeating Fredonia State 4-2 on Wednesday. Road to Nationals shot and edited by Cameron Stell.

COC Softball and Baseball Start Swinging For Conference

For the COC baseball team the season couldn’t have started the season much better as they finished non-conference play with an 8-5 record while defeating four teams in the top 20 Southern California rankings.
It hasn’t been as pretty for the other team swinging the bats at COC as its been a dismal start to the 2011 season for the softball team…

Valencia Football Gets Revenge Against Moorpark in Playoffs

After losing to Moorpark the last two seasons to end their season, the Valencia Vikings dominated the Musketeers 40-21 on their own turf.
With the Vikings ahead 33-21 late in the fourth quarter, the defense stepped up and held the Musketeers on fourth and goal to end Moorpark’s chances of a come back. Valencia’s running back Steven Manfro hammered the nail in the coffin with an 87-yard touchdown run on the very next play on offense for the Vikings

Cougars Soccer Strike Down Palomar

One year removed from an improbable run through the Southern California Regional Soccer Playoffs, the College of the Canyons men’s soccer team started their 2010 playoff campaign in the same fashion as last year, with a dominating home performance.

COC’s Men’s Soccer Team will Host Palomar in the First Round

The College of the Canyons Men’s Soccer is poised and ready to make a run deep into the Southern Regional playoffs. COC earned a NO. 6 seed and will host NO. 11 seed Palomar College on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Cougar Stadium. After seven consecutive victories to finish the 2010 season, the Cougars (13-5-2, 9-3-2) finished in third place in the Western State Conference behind Oxnard and Santa Barbara. Palomar (11-6-4, 7-3-2) finished second in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference after winning 2 of their last 4 games.

Renegades Ruin Cougars Playoff Hopes

For the second consecutive week the College of the Canyons football team found themselves in a must win situation. The outcome this week was not what they were looking for as the Bakersfield Renegade take away the Cougars hopes for a National Division, Northern Conference championship and a chance to make the playoffs in a 41-14 stomping on Saturday.

Cougars Sink the Ship on the Pirates

In a do or die game the College of the Canyons football team pulled out all the stops on Saturday night against the Ventura Pirates. With the National Division, Northern Conference on the line Saturday night the Cougars stayed alive with hard fought 37-24 victory at Cougar Stadium.

Stabbing at Hart High School

A stabbing occurred at Hart High School in Newhall today when two female students got into an altercation during lunch. According to one student, the stabbing was due to an apparent dispute over a relationship. The student also stated that the victim was stabbed with a long kitchen knife just below the left shoulder. She is in stable condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
