West Ranch senior Charlie Morici was the high point winner for Canyons Aquatic at the Speedo Winter Junior Nationals in Federal Way, Wash. this past weekend.
On Thursday, Morici placed 10th in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 47.97. Then on Friday, he finished 22nd in the 100 yard back with a time of 49.41. Morici then capped off a stellar week by finishing 10th in the 200 fly. Morici is set to swim all three races in the U.S. Nationals next August in Indianapolis, In. Morici earned all 14 points for the Canyons men.
But Morici wasn’t the only Canyons swimmer to shine. On Friday, sprinter Ike Harms laid down a personal best of 21.13 in the 50 free. Kyle Brill also came away pleased after he swam a 56.44 in the 50 breast. It was one of three individual events in which he dropped time. One other first time qualifier for one of the season’s most prestigious meets included Ted Hwang.
On the womens side, US Olympic Trial qualifier Izabella Adame gained the only points of the meet for Canyons when she finished 13th in the 100 breast. UC Santa Barbara commit Regan Nibarger competed in both the 50 and 100 free. First time qualifiers Riley Botton and Julia Unas rounded out the eight swimmers who took to the pool for Canyons.
Finally, Paseo Aquatics sprinter Teia Salvino opened eyes just missing out on the bonus final in the 50 free and later laying down a personal best of 50.95 in the 100 free.
