Backyards, house parties and garages – all of them makeshift venues that local indie-punk group Safe Rides has performed in throughout their first year of existence.
The fun-loving band, which consists of singer Brandon Richards, drummer Carl Sanchez, lead guitarist Adam Snow and bassist Evan Vakulich was conceived in early 2018 and started making noise around the Santa Clarita Valley shortly after.
Safe Rides has not stopped yet, and have taken every chance to make themselves heard, often playing D.I.Y. concerts to fans that they have acquired through their lighthearted and comical social media presence.
The band has been featured in clever music videos that give off a humorous impression, but for the four members, it is not all fun and games.
“When it comes to playing our instruments,” said Snow, the lead guitar player, “it’s what we’re passionate about.”
As the band has grown, new opportunities have been presented, such as a recent set at The Canyon in Valencia, a rare occurrence due to the club mainly featuring cover bands.
There is a certain sense of accomplishment playing in a real venue, Richards says, as it was their first real and organized show.
Safe Rides does not plan on stopping this momentum, and have turned to spending their time working on recording music, and are planning on self-releasing an EP later in the year.
