Joe Greiner, a College of the Canyons alum and former COC golfer, gets to travel around the country thanks to his career as a professional caddie.

“It’s a pretty good gig,” said Greiner. “It’s probably second to playing on the PGA tour.”

Joe Greiner and PGA Tour player Max Homa during 2019 Genesis Open.

A former professional player himself, Greiner has spent the last five years as a caddie for a pair of PGA Tour golfers thanks to the connections he made in the Santa Clarita Valley.

In 2013, Max Homa, a friend, called Greiner and wanted him to caddie for his upcoming tournament.

After years of playing together in the SCV and learning each other’s playing style, Homa ended up placing 9th overall in the tournament.

Greiner later went on to caddie for another friend, Kevin Chappell.

Chappell had several successful outings on the PGA tour including a win at the 2017 Valero Texas open with Greiner on the bag.

But this past November the UCLA alum temporarily left the tour after undergoing back surgery last Fall, so Greiner reconnected with Homa.

Now four months later, Greiner and Homa have combined for nearly 344 thousand dollars and Homa is closing in on earning a full-playing exemption for next season.

In the meantime the pair will next tee it up at the Valspar Championship in Florida on March 21st.  It will be the first of three consecutive tournaments before Greiner returns home to Carlsbad.
