A feud between the two most popular games currently is heating up as both games move to mobile, but is one still better than the other?

PUBG and Fortnite, both of which came out in the same year, have been fighting to stay alive, constantly implementing new and innovative features. Though they are both battle royale games, the differences between the two are very noticeable, with even the communities for both differing.

For those who don’t already know what a battle royale game is, it is where up to 100 players fight to survive in a player vs player environment. They must scavenge materials, and they can do so in squads, duos, or even 50v50 modes as seen in Fortnite.

Fortnite was released on July 25th, while PUBG was released on December 20th.

Fortnite has no doubt been a very popular game, even at its release. This has been especially true, for multiple reasons. PUBG has also been a very popular game, but not as much. Here’s why:

Cost Management/Profits

You can always find a match with 100 people when playing PUBG or Fortnite, but Fortnite’s community is undoubtedly much larger than PUBG’s community. One of the reasons for this is because Fortnite is free, and PUBG costs money ($30). Like with most other games, a free game will be preferred over a game that costs money, if each of the games provides essentially the same thing. While Fortnite players can download Fortnite for free, PUBG players must pay, and therefore it is easier for PUBG to make profits.

However, should PUBG run out of people willing to pay money for it, its publishers will struggle to make profits, with micro transactions very limited for PUBG. Fortnite, on the other hand, has many transactions and many cosmetic items on its shop, allowing players to also buy a Battle Pass if they desire to earn even more cosmetics. Though the items are only cosmetics, many people still bought them, for the sheer beauty of Epic Games’s work.

Updates and Improvements

PUBG and Fortnite have both been constantly updating, but updates for each have varied. PUBG’s updates have added a few things, however not as much as Fortnite. A few of the differences include having drivable vehicles, custom weapon skins, custom clothing, and the ability to join disconnected matches. PUBG’s features have been updated over time just as Fortnite has, but the updates have improved PUBG less, due to the amount of things that came with the game when it was released. Fortnite, on the other hand, has improved itself massively. Updates have included new weapons, weapon balancing, performance improvements, new game modes, and even a huge map update.

Fortnite’s update are sure to have players coming back constantly hungry for newer content. Future updates include even more new weapons, map updates, and even drivable vehicles.

The Mobile Gaming Platform

Fortnite and PUBG are still competing to gain status as top battle royale game among gamers. In their pursuit, they have moved their games to mobile. Just recently, Fortnite moved itself to iPhones, allowing users to play with PC and Xbox gamers. In response, PUBG was released on the mobile as well, on both Androids and iPhones. Because both games are still very new to the mobile gaming world, it is difficult to tell whether this will be a success of failure for either game.  However, with the other factors considered, Fortnite’s future is looking bright.
