Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials have launched an investigation into the cause of a fire that damaged part of the Newhall Grand Panda restaurant off Lyons Avenue.
Sheriff’s station officials have reason to believe the fire was suspicious in origin.
“It appears to not be accidental,” said Lt. Leo Bauer, “where the fire started is what made it suspicious.”
The Arson and Explosives unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is now leading the case, according to Bauer.
Although officials did not release where on the property the fire started, the most visible damage was to a window and wall near the restaurant’s entrance.
Firefighters hurried to the blaze around 10 p.m., extinguishing it within 10 minutes, officials said.
No injuries were reported.
