Hosted by the Modern Language Association at College of the Canyons, The International Music and Dance festival was an outstanding event for attendees and performers.
This festival featured a variety of performers that ranged from ‘Tres Grandes’ (Three Big): a trio of musicians paying homage to musical idols Rodrigo y Garbiela, to Folklorico dancing featuring vivid dresses for ladies and sharp suits for gentlemen.
I spoke with a few of the Folklorico dancers who were also high school students. By getting involved early in the Modern Language Associations events, they hope to add this to their extracurricular activities when applying for further education.
I also ran into Antonio Curiel of Tres Grandes who is also part of SCVTV. He explained how exiting it is to have this annual event come around to showcase his bands new works along with getting involved in the community.
Curiel and many others have donated their time and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Department head Rual Drukeda hopes to expand the event with each coming year and promote diversity on campus.
