Thanksgiving a holiday that reminds all to be thankful is celebrated by partaking in a feast of greens, beans, potatoes, tomatoes and other various foods.
While giving thanks, the filling holiday overshadows the idea and act of giving. For the College of the Canyons Cross County and Track team has not lost the idea and celebrates the holiday by giving.
It has become a day of remembrance and servitude, and begins early Thanksgiving morning before a single oven is preheated.
Track and Field coach Lindie Kane, who lost her mother to brain cancer, started what is known as the Turkey Trot here at College of the Canyons. Friends, family and alumni of the running program join Coach Kane to raise awareness, celebrate, and give thanks for the time spent with late Mrs. Kane.
Proceeds are donated in effort to find a cure for brain cancer along with support for the Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
Now in its 8th year the Turkey Trot is attended nearly a hundred of advocates for change embodying the true essence of Thanksgiving.
