Hundreds of volunteers turned out to garden, paint and clean up local nonprofit and city sites for HandsOn Santa Clarita’s 9/11 Day of Service on Saturday.
Participants cleaned and painted the Boys and Girls Club in Newhall, filling nearly 200 care packages for the military at the American Legion.
Volunteers trimmed trees, and touched up paint while reorganizing the Santa Clarita Valley Domestic Violence Center as well as cleaning SRD Straightening Reins.
“The amount of work that they did in 4 hours with 300 volunteers is huge,” said Seema Shah, executive director of HandsOn. “I know the nonprofits are extremely grateful.”
The Day of Service followed HandsOn’s 9/11 Evening Commemoration which honored local servicemen and women and first responders Friday night at the Westfield Valencia Town Center.
