On May 2nd, the Santa Clarita Valley YMCA celebrated Healthy Kids Day in Valencia’s Heritage Park. Healthy Kids Day is a national campaign to improve the health and well being of children.
The initiative aims to stimulate the body and minds of children even after the school year has ended. Across the country more than a thousand YMCA’s held free community events to get kids moving.
Here in the Santa Clarita Valley, kids and adults put on their best capes and costumes for a hero themed 5k ad kids run.
The morning started with a 5k for adults followed by a short kids run. Medals were given upon reaching the finish line but the fun did not stop there.
After the run, there were a variety of activities to keep the kids moving including an inflatable obstacle course, a rock climbing wall and even giant hamster balls to run in.
There were also crafting tents, a book fair, and dance demonstrations.
