A Santa Clarita restaurant owner was arrested and booked for human trafficking and involuntary servitude on Tuesday.
Pardeep Kumar, 47, the owner of Tandoori Grill, located on the 23300 block of Valencia Boulevard, was arrested after Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives spoke with one of his employees who says Kumar forced him to work 12 to 14 hour days without pay over the course of the last three years.
The victim says that while being physically abused and forced to live in the restaurant owner’s home, he was driven directly to and from work, without any communication to the outside world.
A fellow employee contacted the victim’s brother in Mumbai, India and told him of the situation via email.
The victim’s brother then alerted authorities.
Kumar is being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in North Valley Superior court Thursday.
