The California Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal car accident on Sierra Highway near Acton that left two men dead, including one College of the Canyons student, early Sunday morning.
Their car, a 2002 Chevy Camaro, plummeted down a 200-foot ravine at about 4 A.M. on Sunday. Justin Nichols, 19, was identified as the driver, according to the CHP as well as investigators with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department. Nichols has been a COC Student since the fall semester of 2013 and was currently enrolled in the spring semester of 2015. He sustained fatal injuries from the accident.
Officials have not able to identify the 21-year-old passenger who was severely burned in the accident.
“The 2002 Chevy Camaro was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway north of Soledad Canyon Road, at an unknown speed,” CHP Sgt. J. Nelson said in a news release issued early Sunday.
The CHP have not yet identified the reason the driver lost control of the car and traveled over the ravine. Both men died at the scene.
