The city of Santa Clarita held the 9th Annual Youth Grove Evening of Remembrance Ceremony at Central Park on Wednesday Sept. 4. This event provided a time for friends and families to observe and honor loved ones who lost their lives in tragic automobile accidents.
The event began with a walk around Central Park, as people carried posters, pictures and flowers to commemorate those they lost. The community later gathered together for a ceremony at the Youth Grove. This ceremony featured heartfelt speeches and musical performances dedicated to the 91 youths who lost their lives due to texting while driving in SCV.
A slide show of the 91 youths was displayed in the Youth Grove, allowing the community to reminisce about the teens that passed away.
Alice Renolds, a mother who lost both sons, Timothy and Danny Renolds, in an automobile accident, performed a poem at the ceremony. She expressed her sentiments by saying, “Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. As long as there is memory, they’ll live on in our heart.” The community’s message taken away from the night is that, “Texting can wait.”
