The Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu production company is performing a blend of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian dance this Friday, Sept. 26th, at 8 p.m. at the COC Performing Arts Center. The company of 30 dancers was founded in 1985 and is based in San Francisco. The group will blend their own unique style with several types of music including opera, electronic, dance, alternative and pop.
At the end of the show, members of the production company will judge a Hawaiian t-shirt contest and winners will receive special Hawaiian-themed prizes.
A hula workshop will be held the same day, from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. for anyone who is interested in experiencing Hawaiian chant and dance. Guests will be accompanied by professional dancers as they teach traditional hula. The workshop is free and will be located in Pico Hall, Room 101.
The PAC is offering an exclusive deal on tickets to the event. Students may purchase two tickets for $20, plus a $3 ticket fee for each. These tickets can be purchased at the box office with a student ID. General admission will range from $30-$40, depending on seat location.
