Hiker Brian Napoli was rescued Tuesday morning after getting lost deep in Towsley Canyon Monday afternoon.
Authorities say Napoli, 24, was hiking with a friend and somehow the two got separated. Napoli called his friends at 4:51 p.m. to say he was lost in the canyon, and then his phone battery died.
While on his hike Monday, Napoli posted several photos and videos to his Instagram account. This is the last post to that account before he was reported missing.
The search began at about 5:30 p.m. The Los Angeles Country Sheriff’s Department searched for Napoli all night before calling off the search at 2:15 a.m.
The search continued just after sunrise on Tuesday morning. As the family was searching, they asked Napoli to make a noise if he could hear them. Sure enough, they heard Napoli calling for help. Napoli was located at 9:45 a.m at the bottom of a canyon, covered in chaparral to keep warm.
While Napoli was missing, he slipped and fell and knocked himself out. Napoli was transported to Henry Mayo hospital but did not sustain any critical injuries and did not break any bones.
Jason Martin and Antonio Curiel also contributed to this report.
