This past Thanksgiving the sixth annual Turkey Trot took place right here at College of the Canyons!
The Turkey Trot was started five years ago after Lindie Kane’s, the woman who is in charge of the event, mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This is a joint fundraiser event for College of the Canyons Cross Country Track team and also brings awareness for brain cancer and brain cancer research.
Runners and walkers of all ability levels, as well as a lot of youth runners, came from all around the community to participate in this event. There was a few high school athletes and some college runners that were home for the holiday running as well. For most of the runners, this was not their first year running in the Turkey Trot.
The Turkey Trot is a 5k race, or three miles and is a cross country course. It goes through the College of the Canyons Valencia campus and up through the hills along the 5-freeway and then finishes on the track.
After the race was over, most of the runners said how they couldn’t wait for their Thanksgiving feast! And really, who could blame them? Just over 100 people registered for the race, what a great turn out!
