After being favored to win the Foothill league and CIF northern Division, the Hart Indians showed that they were human. It took facing another league favorite, but it happened.

The Hart Indians hosted crosstown rival Valencia High for their Senior night and a chance to clinch the Foothill League. However, the Vikings came in and took the game away from the Indians 24-19.

Hart quarterback Brady White was sacked multiple times, passes were dropped by Hart receivers, and overall the team looked lost in their last game at home this season. The high-powered offense only scored once in the first half, and that was on their first drive off of a redzone run by White.

The Vikings looked as if they were favored to win Foothill league in Friday’s win. A strong run game by seniors Jay Jay Wilson and Stone Jackson, as well as Jake Wallace’s chemistry flowing with senior receiver Nick Jones, the Vikings offense could not be stopped. The team was so efficient, their punter was on the bench until halfway through the second quarter.

The Vikings defense held the Indians scoreless for virtually three quarters, batting down passes and making key interceptions, including a steal off of Brady White that would have resulted in a score by the Indians for the lead.

The Indians’ offense started to click in the 4th though, as a ten yard run by Connor Wingenroth sparked the team. The next Indian drive consisted of White connecting on an 88-yard pass to Trent Irwin, who gashed the secondary to put the Indians within a touchdown to win the game.

However, the Vikings stout defense held White to taking a sack on 4th and long with just 50 seconds to go in the game. Valencia’s famous “Viking Nat” student section rushed the field after the win, swarming players with a sea of purple, large cardboard faces of players like Wallace and Jones, and the joy of knowing that the team had won the Foothill League title in the de facto league championship game.

The Vikings go on to play the Golden Valley Grizzlies, who have yet to win a league game in their school history, at home. The Hart Indians will face the Canyon Cowboys at Canyon High next Friday at 7:30 PM.
