Foothill League teams begin their journey for a CIF title on Friday

The journey has only begun for the four foothill league teams that have advanced to the first round of the CIF Southern and Northern section playoffs.

Valencia, Canyon, Hart and Saugus take the field Friday in hopes of winning the CIF title.

The Vikings, the No. 2 overall seed, will face Redondo Union of the Bay League at home in the first round. They are coming off their fifth league title while reaching four of the past five CIF semifinals. The Vikings ended the Foothill League season with a perfect 5-0 record and have won five in a row, including overcoming a 29-point deficit to beat rival Canyon and convincing win against then No. 6 ranked Hart High School.

Canyon, who is led by University of Colorado commit and quarterback Cade Asapy. The Cowboys will host their first round game against West Torrance from the Bay League. The Cowboys are coming off a dramatic 45-38 win over Hart last Friday and finished the Foothill League in second place with a 8-2 record.

The Hart Indians looked to be one of the favorites to compete to for a CIF title, but have stumbled recently. The Indians were ranked as high as No. 5 in the LA Times poll but now find themselves on the road for their first round game. They will face Paso Robles of the Pac-7.

Last but not least, Saugus who were able to get an at-large bid, largely due to their tough preseason schedule. The Centurions have won 2 in a row and look to have turned things around right in time for the playoffs. They will start their CIF title quest on the road against the No. 3 overall seed Atascadero who finished first in the Pac-7.

Get ready for a wild road to the CIF title game, All games will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
