On Saturday night the College of the Canyons Cougars will put their five game win streak on the line against the Ventura College Pirates.
The Pirates are coming off a 52-28 loss to Saddleback college who COC defeated back on Sept. 14 31-28.
This game will be battle of number 1’s as Ventura’s offense is ranked first in points per game with a fraction under 40 and COC’s defense is ranked first in points per game allowed at a hair under 16.
The odds should be in COC’s favor as their offense rank’s second in points per game.
Cougars will look to limit the Pirates passing game and quarterback Brad Oderman. The defense will look to mix up coverages and play sound defense on the back end. “We have to try and confuse him and slow them down,” COC’s first year head coach Ted Iacenda said.
Though this is the only third game in conference play it will go a long way into deciding a champion as Ventura is defending conference champions and has been the most dominate team over the past few seasons.
A victory for the Cougars on Saturday would go a long way for recruiting and getting this program back to the success they had in the early 2000’s. ” We recruit heavy in the Simi-Ventura area. They’re the big dogs, it would be a step in the right direction for the program,” Iacenda said.
