SANTA CLARITA– After winning a five-set thriller in their first game of the season, the Cougars women’s volleyball team shut out Moorpark in three sets this past Friday.
Led by only four sophomores, the Lady Cougars (2-0) had to rely on a young team, which seemed up to the challenge versus the Raiders, (0-1).
The Cougs sailed through the match smoothly in the first two sets, (25-16, 25-21).
Down early in the third set 12-15, the Cougs rallied together to go on to win the third set (25-21) in what was indeed a battle.
The Cougars were led by Freshman Serena LeDuff, with a match-high 16 kills. Sophomore setter Jordan Carter 17 assists, and Sophomore Cassidy Fitzpatrick had 15 digs.
“We’ve known for a while now that this group is going to be quite good,” said Coach Lisa Hooper. “We have that wonderful problem of trying to figure out exactly what the best combination of good is gonna be.”
Hooper, entering her 17th season as the head coach, must see something special in these ladies, as they open up the season 2-0.
