College of the Canyons is moving ahead with plans to build a 12,200 square foot Culinary Arts building behind Mentry Hall.
Officials broke ground on the future home of the school’s culinary arts department on Monday.
When completed, the Valencia Campus building will house a separate kitchens for demonstrations and sweets as well as space for classrooms and offices.
Over the last seven years, the Culinary Arts program has called three locations home – the existing Valencia Campus cafeteria, a restaurant space at the Valencia Town Center (now the Tilted Kilt) as well as another restaurant space in Castaic.
The building will cost approximately $6.7 million and is set for a November 2014 completion date.
