Although being the new head coach of COC football, Ted Iacenda is no stranger to the program.

Iacenda hails from the Hart district of Santa Clarita and had a previous stop here at the beginning of his coaching career. Most recently, Iacenda was the assistant head coach of Alemany High School in Mission Hills for the last seven years. He first got into coaching right after his playing days were over when a coach told him that he should really consider coaching, shortly after he landed his first coach job at a junior college in Texas.

When sitting down having lunch with COC athletic director Chuck Lyon discussing the future of the program, Lyon informed him that he had been chosen to be the next head coach of the Cougars. Iacenda was ecstatic, saying “This is a dream job.”

Iacenda’s plan for the Cougars is to make them better men on and off the field. He wants the team to understand that not only are they there to win games, they’re also here to earn a degree and earn a scholarships.

In addition to hiring Iacenda as the new head coach, COC brought in a few new faces to the coaching staff. Mike Kane is back to coach the running backs, Matt Caryter will coach the defensive backs, and Kirk Densmore will coach the defensive line.

The Cougars open up the 2013 season on Sept. 7 at Golden West.
