“Savia” branching out in Newhall

Savia – Latin for “sap” the life-blood of a tree.

Figurative or literal, there is new life coming to Newhall.  That new life is Real Life Church and the new church plant, Savia, a second location set to open on May 5th upon installation of a premiere work of art.

Artist, Shane Hammond and RLC Arts & Events Director, Paul Dowler pine away at finishing the two-story tree which symbolizes the new facility. According to Dowler, Savia will take under it’s branches other non-profit corporations such as Single Mothers Outreach, A Light of Hope family rehab center, and the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita.  The 23,000 square foot, two-story structure will also host a coffee and juice bar in addition to church services which will stream video from Real Life Church Valencia location.Savia_Sign

“As an artist, one of my favorite sculptural pieces to work on art trees. I like the organic nature of them,” explains Shane Hammond, an SCV artist/sculptor and owner of Set Masters.

“It’s quite an honor. It’s a great way to give back and being part of the community and part of the church and it’s an expression of art, so I’m quite happy,” Hammond concludes.savia_tree_work
