State approves construction on new Student Services/ Administration Building

New Student Services/ "A" Building ConstructionFollowing its Mar. 14  groundbreaking ceremony and a slew of pre-construction tasks, College of the Canyons finally received the states approval to begin construction of its new Student Services/Administration Building Friday.

“All contracts have been signed, bonds and insurance paperwork has been completed,” said Jim Schrage, Vice President of Facilities at COC, “The construction project will begin immediately.”

The $17.8 million, 4,600 sq. ft. student services building will house the financial aid office, transfer and career center and counseling center.

The Student Services/Administration Building is expected to be finished by Jan. 2015.

David Perez is a new media journalist, who currently works for KHTS AM 1220, the Santa Clarita Valleys only radio station. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts from Cal. State Univ. Northridge after spending his senior year studying abroad at the University of Hull in Yorkshire, England in 2011. David started writing for Cougar News after taking a Media Entertainment Arts class in 2012.

In his free time David enjoys traveling, swing dancing, playing the ukulele and acting.
