College of the Canyons tests its Emergency Notification System

College of the Canyons tested its Emergency Notification System Tuesday morning when a plethora of phone calls, text messages and emails were sent to all COC employees.

One employee reported that he missed three calls from COC. He was called every ten minutes until he was finally reached on his mobile phone in addition to the text message and e-mail he received from COC.

The E-mail read:


This is a test of COC ALERT.  College of the Canyons Emergency Notification System.  This is only a test.

This e-mail has been sent to you by SANTA CLARITA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT as part of our alert notification system. To learn more about the system or if you do not wish to receive further notifications, please visit Thank you.

David Perez is a new media journalist, who currently works for KHTS AM 1220, the Santa Clarita Valleys only radio station. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts from Cal. State Univ. Northridge after spending his senior year studying abroad at the University of Hull in Yorkshire, England in 2011. David started writing for Cougar News after taking a Media Entertainment Arts class in 2012.

In his free time David enjoys traveling, swing dancing, playing the ukulele and acting.
