Opinion: Does D’Antoni trump “Zen”?

They say defense wins championships, so with that being the case, was hiring offensive mastermind, Mike D’antoni really the right move?

Many feel D’antoni is the better fit for this Laker team in particular, due to the fact that Steve Nash is on the roster, along with other athletic studs, such as Dwight Howard.

Some will argue that there is no arguing the 11 championships (five with the Lakers) Phil Jackson has won

But let’s break it down for a second. If Phil were to be hired, he would almost certainly implement the triangle offense and that would take time to grasp. With the Lakers firing Mike Brown for his slow start with the infamous Princeton offense, would they really have the patience for yet another new system?

That is why D’antoni is the proper fit for this current Laker team. His free flow, run and gun style is just what they need to fully utilize the talent at hand. Expect to see the ball in Steve Nash’s hands throughout most of each possession.

The fact of the matter remains that no matter who is coaching this team, a championship is expected. Anything less will surely be a disappointment.

Although Mike D’antoni hasn’t won an NBA championship yet, he is still a proven winner and has found much success in the NBA with his current system.
